THIS ISN'T ANOTHER EMAIL ABOUT THE GLORY OF REMOTE WORK
In our rush to be hyper-productive, We losing sight of what truly matters. Shift the focus from mere productivity to real profitability.
Hello, Remote Leader 👋
Are we focusing on what matters in our fast-paced world, where a day can be packed with back-to-back virtual meetings and zero commute?
THIS ISN'T JUST ANOTHER EMAIL ABOUT THE GLORY OF REMOTE WORK
No, this isn't about praising the freedom and flexibility of remote work (bla bla bla...). It's about something far more critical: the profitability of our actions. Ask yourself: How often do you consider the profitability of your work, not just its productivity?
PROFIT, NOT JUST ACTIVITY
We live in an era where AI can boost 10 times your productivity. But not only yours, so I’m sorry.. but you are not special if you use ChatGPT.
When evaluating a business, key metrics like revenue per employee and, more crucially, profit per employee, matter significantly. During Voxloud's yearly performance review (look at this past issue about how we handle them), I was struck by a stark realization: only a handful of my team were truly conscious of their profitability for the business.
Your salary is X. How much revenue do you produce directly or indirectly? What’s the profit that your company generates thanks to you?
That’s the key to everything. Everything else is just fancy metrics.
FINDING FREEDOM IN PROFITABILITY
Prioritizing profit helps us identify what truly deserves our time and effort. It guides us to eliminate unprofitable activities, often those undertaken to fill our time or give a semblance of busyness.
By realigning our focus toward profitability, we can cut through the noise and fluff that often cloud our days. This approach sharpens our business acumen and leads us to the essence of remote work: genuine freedom. It's the freedom to engage in work that's not just busy but truly beneficial – for us, our teams, and our companies.
So, as you navigate your remote work journey, I encourage you to ask: Are my efforts leading to real profitability? You might be surprised at how this question reshapes your approach to work and life.
Stay profitable and see you next week ✌️
That's all for this Saturday.
