Taking the Three-Point Shot in Remote Work
Explore the power of the 'three-point shot' in remote work – those bold, ambitious moves that can elevate your career. Learn how to step out of your comfort zone and aim higher than ever before
Hello, remote leaders 👋,
In basketball, the three-point shot is a high-risk, high-reward move. It's difficult to land, but it can change the game when it does.
In remote work and entrepreneurship, our 'three-point shots' are those ambitious, daring moves that may seem out of reach, but can potentially elevate our careers or businesses dramatically.
The Cage of the Remote Comfort Zone
One of the trickiest parts of remote work is stepping out of your comfort zone. When you're remote, your environment is what you make it. While this autonomy is empowering, it also means you're less likely to be pushed by external factors. You're in a world largely of your own making, which might limit what you believe is achievable.
The Habit of Ambitious Attempts
So, how do we combat the complacency of the remote comfort zone? Beyond networking and continuous learning, one effective strategy is to attempt your own 'three-point shots regularly'.
These bold, challenging actions stretch your limits and expand your vision. Here are some examples:
Reach for the Stars: Send a message to a dream client or a potential employee – think big, like Google big.
Connect with Idols: Send a connection request to someone you admire immensely in your field.
Public Commitment: Write a post about an ambitious goal and commit to documenting your journey towards it.
Will these shots always score? Probably not. But that's not the only point.
Firstly, sometimes you will succeed, achieving things far beyond your usual scope. Secondly, perhaps more importantly, you'll cultivate a mindset of constantly looking for your next 'three-point shot'.
This habit will elevate your benchmarks and align them closer to your dreams.
What's Your Three-Point Shot?
Think about it. What's that one bold move you've been hesitating to make? That one idea that seems a little too far out there? Maybe it's time to take that shot.
Remote work doesn't mean working in isolation from ambition and big dreams. It's an opportunity to craft your path, to aim higher, and to occasionally – take that audacious, game-changing three-point shot.
That's all for this Saturday.
